Swapping is the New Shopping
It’s time to dig out that unloved dress dying at the back of
your wardrobe, pull out that unworn pully, retrieve those
tossed aside trousers and gather up your shunned shoes, hated hats,
jilted jackets and blown-out blouses.
Pack them up and give them the chance to find a loving home at
Hereford’s second annual Big Clothes Swap, being held on Saturday,
24 March 2012.
The event, which takes place in the Shirehall, promises to be so
much more than just a swishing event as there will be live music,
refreshments, drop-in session workshops and the opportunity to be
part of a collaborative art project. There will also be a fashion
show of recycled and revamped clothes staged by the Hereford
College of Arts.
The workshops, demonstrating basic needle skills as well as
ideas for the more advanced seamstresses and knitters, will run
from 10.30am – 2.30pm, the Fashion Show will take place at 12.30pm
and the Big Clothes Swap will start at 1pm.
You will need tokens to “buy” clothes, so to ensure you can be a
part of the Swap, take your unwanted, but good quality clothing, to
the Shirehall between 10am – 2.30pm on Friday 23 March and between
9.30am – 12 noon, on the day of the event and earn some currency to
spend.
The initiative managed in partnership by Hereford City Council,
Herefordshire Council’s Waste Team, Hereford College of Arts and
the Newton Farm Community Association aims to encourage people to
think about the clothes they discard and to think about
alternatives for items they no longer want or need.
