Master Composters
Calling all green-fingered residents…
Composting experts who have volunteered
thousands of hours demonstrating how to transform household waste
into first-rate garden compost are calling on residents
to learn the green-fingered art.
In the last six months alone, over 500 hours have been volunteered
under the Master Composter Scheme, an eco project managed by
Worcestershire County Council in partnership with Herefordshire
Council and national charity Garden Organic.
They've supported the councils' waste prevention teams at major
events including the Bromsgrove Carnival, Tenbury Show, Pershore
Plum Fayre as well as running their own stands at local fetes,
flower shows and festivals.
Alongside this, the green-fingered buffs have
also been busy giving educational talks in local schools and
community centres to help spread the message.
Cllr Anthony Blagg, cabinet member for Waste and
Sustainability said "The volunteers are a valued resource
and we are extremely grateful for all their hard work over the last
couple of years. They have a wealth of knowledge and are always
willing to pass this on to members of the public when ever they get
the chance."
Composting, which helps to reduce the amount
of biodegradable waste that gets sent to landfill, is seen as
doubly green as it produces a nutrient rich compost ideal for use
in the garden.
Compost bins are available to residents
of Herefordshire & Worcestershire from as little as £12
(including delivery).
