Master Composters growing in number
Last month saw the graduation of nine more
Master Composter volunteers from Herefordshire and Worcestershire
at the National Master Composter conference at Garden Organic,
Ryton.
Master
Composters can officially graduate when they have accomplished 30
hours worth of composting advice and support in the local
community.
There are currently 62 Master Composters in Herefordshire &
Worcestershire.
All together Master Composters have given over 1000 hours towards
promoting home composting and helping others to compost better in
the last year alone as well over 5000 hours, since the scheme
started in 2006.
Christopher Atkinson Worcestershire County Council's Senior
Waste Prevention Officer said: "We are
very grateful for the support we receive from Master Composters,
who do a tremendous job advising and inspiring others to compost
more effectively."
Master Composters have helped the councils' Waste Prevention Team
at large events like Pershore Carnival, Malvern Fringe Festival and
Discover Bewdley, this summer, as well as running their own stands
at local fetes, flower shows and festivals.
Collectively they have helped and advised hundreds of budding home
composters as well as encouraged those who are yet to take up the
art of home composting to give it a try. Compost bins are available
to residents of Herefordshire & Worcestershire from as little
as £13 (including delivery).
