Compost bin sale proves a big hit
In March this year, Herefordshire Council and Worcestershire
County Council launched a new discount composting scheme for the
two counties which allows residents to buy their own composting bin
for as little as £12 including delivery. The scheme has proven a
great success with over 2800 compost bins being purchased
up until the end of July.
Residents have also been given the option of purchasing a second
bin for half price which can work out at as little as £15.50
including delivery for two 220 litre bins. This year has also seen
the introduction of the option of a green bin rather than the
traditional black, which has proven very popular with around 60% of
residents opting for green.
The full range of composting equipment,
including wormeries, bokashi systems, larger compost bins and
accessories such as kitchen caddies for storing food waste before
it is transferred to the compost bin in one trip, are available at

Councillor Anthony Blagg,
Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Waste and
Sustainability, said: "There is so much that can be
put into a compost bin, from vegetable peelings and salad leftovers
from summer barbeques to garden waste and even cardboard and
newspaper. A good mixture of these kinds of items will give a
fantastic compost to give the garden a bit of a boost."
